Ayurvedic Herbs That Have Been Shown To Help Cure Cancer
In
a time where cancer is an extremely popular disease, finding effective
and safe cures to treat cancer should be a high priority. The general

1. Ashwagandha
This
herb also known as “Indian Ginseng” is an adaptogen, which means it is
able to supplement the body’s ability to deal with stressors such as
anxiety, fatigue, or trauma. Because of this ashwagandha is used for
literally hundreds of ailments in Ayurvedic medicine. It can increase
our resistance to stress while increasing our energy levels.
Research shows
that this herb helps to slow down the growth of cancer cells and

Following paragraph is taken from a paper published by National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science & Technology (AIST), Central, Higashi, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan.
"Ashwagandha, also called as "Queen of Ayurveda" and "Indian ginseng", is
a commonly used plant in Indian traditional medicine, Ayurveda. Its
roots have been used as herb remedy to treat a variety of ailments and
to promote general wellness. However, scientific evidence to its effects
is limited to only a small number of studies. We had previously
identified anti-cancer activity in the leaf extract (i-Extract) of
Ashwagandha and demonstrated withanone as a cancer inhibitory factor
(i-Factor). In the present study, we fractionated the i-Extract to its
components by silica gel column chromatography and subjected them to
cell based activity analyses. We found that the cancer inhibitory leaf
extract (i-Extract) has, at least, seven components that could cause
cancer cell killing; i-Factor showed the highest selectivity for cancer
cells and i-Factor rich Ashwagandha leaf powder was non-toxic and
anti-tumorigenic in mice assays. We undertook a gene silencing and
pathway analysis approach and found that i-Extract and its components
kill cancer cells by at least five different pathways, viz. p53
signaling, GM-CFS signaling, death receptor signaling, apoptosis
signaling and G2-M DNA damage regulation pathway. p53 signaling was most
common. Visual analysis of p53 and mortalin staining pattern further
revealed that i-Extract, fraction F1, fraction F4 and i-Factor caused an
abrogation of mortalin-p53 interactions and reactivation of p53
function while the fractions F2, F3, F5 work through other mechanisms."
2. Garlic
Garlic is an amazing healing herb. Numerous double blind studies have
shown that garlic is also amazing at preventing cancer. It has been a
staple used by naturopaths for centuries in raw, juice or soup form to
treat various types of cancer.There have also been studies done to prove that garlic can kill brain cancer cells, without harming the healthy cells. Protective effects from garlic may arise from its antibacterial properties or from its ability to block the formation of cancer-causing substances, halt the activation of cancer-causing substances (19), enhance DNA repair, reduce cell proliferation, or induce cell death.
The European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
is an ongoing multinational study involving men and women from 10
different countries. This study is investigating the effects of
nutrition on cancer. In the study, higher intakes of onion and garlic
were associated with a reduced risk of intestinal cancer (6).
The National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health,
does not recommend any dietary supplement for the prevention of cancer,
but recognizes garlic as one of several vegetables with potential
anticancer properties. Because all garlic preparations are not the same,
it is difficult to determine the exact amount of garlic that may be
needed to reduce cancer risk. Furthermore, the active compounds present
in garlic may lose their effectiveness with time, handling, and
processing. The World Health Organization’s
(WHO) guidelines for general health promotion for adults is a daily
dose of 2 to 5 g of fresh garlic (approximately one clove), 0.4 to 1.2 g
of dried garlic powder, 2 to 5 mg of garlic oil, 300 to 1,000 mg of
garlic extract, or other formulations that are equal to 2 to 5 mg of
allicin.
3. Green Tea
Green tea has long been acknowledged for its antioxidants and healing benefits. In fact there have been multiple studies
that show that an active biological agent in green tea called
epigallocatechin gallate or “EGCG,” can effectively treat pancreatic
cancer.
Also, green tea may lower the risk of digestive system cancers in women , and another study found that when EGCG was administered directly to tumors, two thirds of them shrunk or disappeared within one month.
4. Ginger
Ginger
is another staple in the practice of Ayurvedic medicine. It is used in
many Indian dishes. Inflammation markers that are precursors to colon
cancer can actually be reduced significantly by the consumption of the
ginger root, or in its powdered spice form. Ginger is a powerful
anti-inflammatory that soothes and heals the digestive tract, which is
why it is suggested as one of the best home remedies for the treatment
of colon cancer.
Numerous studies
have shown that ginger has been effective in destroying ovarian and
prostate cancer cells. Not only does ginger kill these cancer cells, but
it also prevents them from building a resistance to cancer treatments.
Researchers agree that more research would be needed to further
understand if this treatment can be effective in humans given various
situations.Researchers from the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center have found that ginger not only kills cancer
cells, it also prevents them from building up resistance to cancer
treatment. Ginger is already used as an effective remedy for nausea and
inflammation.
In a study published by Medical News today, scientists applied a solution of ginger powder and water to ovarian cancer
cells (similar ginger powder to what is sold at grocery stores, only a
standardized research grade). In every single one of their tests they
found that the cancer cells died as a result of being in contact with
the ginger solution - they either committed suicide (apoptosis) or they
digested/attacked themselves (autophagy). If ginger can cause autophagy as well as apoptosis, it can prevent resistance to chemotherapy - something that is a common development with ovarian cancer patients.
5. Tumeric
The
compounds in the popular Indian spice turmeric have been found to cure
many different ailments. The curcumin in the turmeric root literally
cause colon cancer cells to self-destruct.

Curcumin
has been shown to reawaken a key tumor suppressive gene, inhibit
metastases, straight up kill cancer cells, and prevent the re-growth of
cancer stem cells.
Following is a extract from a report titled "Curcumin causes superoxide anion production and p53-independent apoptosis in human colon cancer cells" published in .ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.
"Curcumin from the rhizome of theCurcuma longa plant has
chemopreventative activity and inhibits the growth of neoplastic cells.
Since p53 has been suggested to be important for anticancer activity by
curcumin, we investigated curcumin-induced cytotoxicity in cultures of
p53(+/+) and p53(-/-) HCT-116 colon cancer cells, as well as mutant p53
HT-29 colon cancer cells. Curcumin killed wild-type p53 HCT-116 cells
and mutant p53 HT-29 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. In
addition, curcumin-treated p53(+/+) HCT-116 cells and mutant p53 HT-29
cells showed upregulation of total and activated p53, as well as
increased expression of p53-regulated p21, PUMA (p53 upregulated
modulator of apoptosis), and Bax; however, an equivalent cytotoxic
effect by curcumin was observed in p53(+/+) and p53(-/-) HCT-116 cells,
demonstrating that curcumin-induced cytotoxicity was independent of p53
status. Similar results were obtained when the cytotoxic effect of
curcumin was assessed in wild-type p53 HCT-116 cells after
siRNA-mediated p53 knockdown. Chromatin condensation, poly (ADP-ribose)
polymerase-1 cleavage and reduced pro-caspase-3 levels in
curcumin-treated p53(+/+) and p53(-/-) HCT-116 cells suggested that
curcumin caused apoptosis. In addition, exposure to curcumin resulted in
superoxide anion production and phosphorylation of oxidative stress
proteins in p53(+/+) and p53(-/-) HCT-116 cells. Collectively, our
results indicate that, despite p53 upregulation and activation,
curcumin-induced apoptosis in colon cancer cells was independent of p53
status and involved oxidative stress. Curcumin may therefore have
therapeutic potential in the management of colon cancer, especially in
tumorsthatare resistant to conventional chemotherapydue todefects inp53
expression or function."
